Lothamer is a cultural archivist and visionary activist. Since
1967 he has produced, promoted, and recorded alternative culture
events. His background includes attending Catholic seminary
and training in Neurolinguistic Programming, Nonviolent Communication
and Ericksonian hypnosis. He is a coauthor of Healing
Our Planet, Healing Our Selves as well as the author
of a new book published in May 2005, entitled Dancing
in the Shadow of Tyranny, An Activist's Guide to Inner Disarmament.
Neriah
has facilitated encounter groups, consensus communities, Rainbow
gatherings, rock and roll shows, and alternative festivals.
His activist experiences include video recording, networking,
publicity, and public speaking for causes including the Kent
State University strikes, the Denver Moratorium on the Vietnam
War, the Black Hills Alliance, resistance to the relocation
of the Hopi-Dineh tribes, the Headwaters Alliance, and the
California and Oregon Medical Marijuana and Hemp initiatives.
Born
in Michigan in 1946, Neriah is the father of six children
and grandfather of six. As a member of the “Boomer”
generation he was born into the lower middle class affluent
generation that boomed in the United States after World War
II. He was exposed to television, movies, drive-ins, fast
foods, consumerism, multi-media, mass education and a Catholic
childhood, Neriah was the class valedictorian in eighth grade.
He spent the next 2 years in a junior seminary of the Missionary
Oblates of Mary Immaculate in San Antonio. He returned to
Colorado, finished high school and began college at the University
of Colorado.
The
Vietnam War got his attention and he began to get involved
in the anti-war protests, helping in the nation-wide Kent
State Strikes, he joined thousands on his campus in Boulder
Colorado in shutting that university down. Participating in
the Denver Moratorium on the war, Neriah began to learn how
to organize. His interest in the alternative culture, led
him into mysticism, communities, psychedelics, environmentalism,
and festival organizing.
In
1972 Neriah went to the first Rainbow Family of Living Light
Gathering of the Tribes in the wilderness outside of Granby
Colorado. His whole life changed as saw 40,000 others like
him who had hiked the 8 miles up to the gathering. He became
a visionary on a Rainbow trail that led to facilitating many
types of prayer gatherings but especially those like the Rainbow
gatherings that stood on their First Amendment rights to peacefully
assemble, pray for peace, petition the government for grievances,
and address war and environmental issues. He began his archiving
of the alternative culture with the gatherings and then fairs,
festivals, political rallies; eventually recording rock and
roll concerts.
Neriah
has been in a band, owned and run a grassroots recording studio,
engineered and mixed sound reinforcement for concerts, studio
recorded and mixed many bands, live mixed 3-4 cameras while
recording performances, and is developing a multimedia website
based on the Global Awakening.
His
interest in personal growth got him involved in leading encounter
groups and facilitating retreats, workshops, and personal
growth events. Neriah has given speeches on various causes
as well as personal growth; he now speaks and writes of both
and how politics and personal growth relate to the evolution
of humanity. Neriah is unique in this field because his approach
as a “non-expert”, just-common-sense person keeps
the language down to earth about stuff everybody everyday
now faces in our world. He shows what is happening to us and
in our world, why and how it happens, and how to deal with
it in our daily life. His experience gives him an insight
into the real heart and soul of the problems in everyone’s
life today.
